Livingstone will Host its Fifth
Annual Celebrity Sports Scholarship Weekend: Blue Bears Induct nine
into the Hall of Fame

Salisbury, N.C.
– The Livingstone College Athletic Department will induct nine former
athletes into its fifth annual athletic hall of fame June 16-17. The
event, “Celebrity Sports Scholarship Weekend” will consist of a
black-tie induction ceremony on Friday night; which will be held in
the Grand Ballroom of the University Hilton in Charlotte, NC at 8:00
p.m. A celebrity golf tournament will be held Saturday morning with a
9:00 am shotgun start at the Rocky River Golf Course in Concord, NC.
Inductees will consists of former
women’s basketball standout Dr. Lavilla Mushatt Watson ‘56 of
Nassau County, NY, posthumously Reverend John Robert Edward Kinard
’60 of Washington, DC; who was a former football standout, former
basketball star Robert N. Wiley ’63 of Spencer, NC, former
football standout Produs Scott Perkins ’70 of Lexington, NC;
former football player and long-time athletic supporter Dorsey T.
Montgomery Sr. ’70 of Goldsboro, NC, former Miss Livingstone and
Track & Field standout Shannon Chinnis Cherry ’93 of
Charleston, SC, also former Miss Livingstone and Track & Field
Standout Kellee Dillard Watkins ’95 of Durham, NC, former
football standout Troy Veale ’95 of Bertie County, NC, and
Administrator/former track & field standout Clifton Huff ’85 of

Livingstone Will Host its Fourth
Annual Athletic Hall of Fame

Salisbury, N.C. – The Livingstone College Athletic Department inducted 13 into its fourth annual athletic hall of fame June 17-18. The
event, “Celebrity Sports Scholarship Weekend” consisted of a black-tie
induction ceremony on Friday night; which was held in the ballroom of
the University Hilton in Charlotte, NC at 8:00 p.m. A celebrity golf
tournament was held the next morning with a 9:00 am shotgun start at
the Rocky River Golf Course in Concord, NC.
Honorees were former coach, instructor, and athletic
director Dr. Fred Ponder, former football athlete and interim
president Dr. Roy Hudson ‘55, former football and basketball
athlete Charles Kirk, Sr. ’60, former football and tennis athlete
Dr. James Talley ’63, former football athlete and former coach
Thomas “Rudy” Abrams ’64, former football and golf athlete Judge
William “Pete” Hunter ’66, contributor William Bunch ’69,
former football athlete John Farrar ’73, former football athlete
Horace Ballard ’74, former softball and track athlete and Miss
Livingstone Jacqueline Kendall ’81, former basketball athlete and
former coach Antonio Davis ’87, former volleyball, basketball, and
track athlete Sherie Bell ’93, and former volleyball and basketball
athlete April Hawkins ’97.

Livingstone College inducted ten alumni into its third annual athletic
hall of fame Friday, June 25, at Ballantyne Resort and Spa in
Charlotte, NC. James
Bridges ’58, of
Greensboro, NC; Robert Burrell ’66, of Forestville, MD; Erica
Moore Carter, '97, of Salisbury, NC; Robert Cockerl Jr.
'66, of Salisbury, NC; Paul Kluttz Sr., '70, of Albemarle, NC;
Former Coach John D. Marshall of Fayetteville, NC; Clifford
Phifer, '62, of Plymouth, NC; Dr. David Shinholster, '57,
of Jefferson City, MO; Henry Ricardo Smith, '78, of Chesapeake,
VA; and Robert Steele Jr. of Salisbury, NC; were inducted
during a special black tie ceremony at a dinner gala.
Patrons
weathered their first hole of 18 with rain but quickly it dried out
and everyone enjoyed the remainder of the golf outing. With winning
foursome of Roderick Randolph, Carlos Dowell, Erick Zirkle, and Ryan
Sulkowski, shot a captain’s choice 57. Randolph, Dowell, and Zirkle
are all members of the athletic department.

Livingstone
College inducts 10 into the Second Annual Hall of Fame

Livingstone College will induct ten alumni into its second annual
athletic hall of fame Saturday, June 28, at Ballantyne Resort and Spa
in Charlotte, NC. They will join members of the Livingstone College
football team that participated in the first black college football
game in 1892 and the Inductee Class of 2002.
After
a celebrity golf tournament Saturday morning, Charles Gibbs, Louis
Martin, Alexander Erwin, Dr. Curtis Gilmore, Dr. John Thompson,
Sylvester Sutton, Johnny Stoutamire Jr., Anne Little, Michael Brag,
and Rob Clodfelter will be inducted during a special ceremony at a
dinner gala, followed by a presidential reception. The ceremony is
open to the public at $100 per plate.
Saturday,
guests have the opportunity to golf a few rounds with some celebrity
athletes on an immaculate course for $75.00 during a special golf
tournament. The tournament will begin with an 8:30 am shotgun start.

Livingstone College Inducts Nine Into
Hall of Fame
Salisbury, NC
– On Friday, June 28, 2002, Livingstone College will induct its
second group of alumni into its Hall of Fame. Morris Wiggins, Alfred
Tyler, Romus Jefferies, Larry Melton, Johnny Miller, Larry Lee, Dr.
Beverly Downing, Joseph White, Darryl Ardrey, and Ben Coates will be
honored at the Livingstone College Celebrity Sports Scholarship
Weekend. Ballantyne Resort & Spa - in Charlotte, NC - will be the
site of a dinner gala, which includes a presidential reception, silent
auction and the Livingstone College Athletic Hall of Fame induction
ceremony. This class of inductees will join members of the Livingstone
College football team who participated in the first black college
football game in 1892.
On Saturday, June 29, a celebrity
golf tournament and a day of pampering with Madame President will also
be held at Ballantyne Resort & Spa. Proceeds from each of the
events will support the athletic program’s need to recruit and
retain academically talented student-athletes, to address challenges
with current facilities, and to provide scholarships for
student-athletes.
