LIVINGSTONE APPOINTS LAMONTE J. MASSIE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR
SALISBURY, NC – Livingstone College has named Head Football Coach Lamonte J. Massie its next leader in the Department of Athletics.
President of Livingstone College Jimmy R. Jenkins Sr. states, “After careful consideration of the challenge to appoint an Athletic Director and to make sure that we can structure a situation for athletics to better support itself financially, I am hereby appointing Mr. Lamonte Massie, to also serve as Athletic Director. Coach Massie has shown a level of high energy toward fundraising and has shared visionary strategies to where the institution could go athletically. Effective June 1, 2007, all activities and responsibilities related to athletics should be directed to Coach Massie. I want to congratulate Coach Massie for his diligence and ask that you give him full support as we seek to lift the Athletic Program to the next level.”
Lamonte J. Massie is the former coach of Edward Waters College where he compiled a 28-34 career record over six seasons. In 2004 Edwards Water College won the South Eastern Atlantic Conference Championship after four years of restarting football. He was later selected in 2005 to be the South Eastern Atlantic Conference’s Commissioner.
Coach Massie is a 1991 graduate of Tuskegee University with a Bachelor of Science in Physics. He is a Distinguished Military Graduate from Tuskegee University’s US Army ROTC and a member of Alpha Phi Omega National Service Fraternity.
Lamonte is a native of Syracuse, New York and has been married for fifteen years to the former Felicia A. Wright, who is a graduate of South Carolina State University and University of South Carolina Graduate School of Education. They have two lovely children, eleven year old Erika and eight year old Jamel.
