FALCON’S DEFENSE FORCES FIVE TURNOVERS IN LIVINGSTONE 27-8 LOSS
SALISBURY, NC - Arnold Mullins (Philadelphia, PA) rushed
for two touchdowns as Saint Augustine's College forced five
turnovers including three which led to touchdowns in a 27-8
football victory over winless Livingstone College at Alumni
Memorial Stadium on Saturday, Oct. 27.
After the Falcons (2-7, 2-4 CIAA) fumbled the opening drive,
Andrade Olliver (Kenly, NC) intercepted a pass on the next play
and ran 41 yards to the Livingstone 15-yard line, which set up
Mullins' 1-yard scoring run and Adison Daniels' (Raleigh, NC)
extra point. The Falcons led 14-0 in the second quarter on
Mullins' 6-yard run and Daniels' extra point after Olliver
recovered a fumble at the Falcon 46.
The lead stretched to 20-0 in the third quarter on Lester
Graham's (Fort Pierce, FL) 1-yard run after Marsean Chestnut
(Phoenix, AZ) intercepted a pass and ran 40 yards to the Blue
Bear 10. The Falcons led 27-0 in the third quarter after Anthony
Brown (Pittsburgh, PA), starting for the first time since the
second game, hit Richard Boone (Petersburg, VA) for a 68-yard
touchdown pass. Daniels kicked the extra point.
The Blue Bears (0-9, 0-6 CIAA) finally scored in the third
quarter when Curtis Edens connected with Donte' Daye for a
62-yard touchdown pass. The Blue Bears Defense added a safety in
the fourth quarter.
The Falcons held the Blue Bears to minus 19 yards rushing, but
the Blue Bears passed for 287 yards. The Falcons, meanwhile,
featured a balanced attack in gaining 281 total offensive yards
but committed three turnovers.
Receivers had a big day as Boone of the Falcons caught two
passes for 121 yards, Anthony Harris of the Blue Bears grabbed 7
passes for 101 yards, and Donte' Daye had 6 catches for 129
yards. Mullins rushed for 46 yards in 21 carries, and Graham had
40 yards on 13 carries.
Olliver, a freshman middle linebacker, was outstanding on the
Falcon defense as he had a game-high 12 tackles in addition to 2
interceptions, 1 sack, 1 forced fumble and 1 fumble recovery.
Alex Hall (Glenarden, MD), a stalwart defensive end, recorded 2
sacks as the Falcons finished the day with 6 sacks total. John
Ford had 8 tackles for the Blue Bears.
The Falcons conclude the season on Nov. 3 against arch-rival
Shaw University at Durham County Stadium at 4 p.m. They will
attempt to derail the Bears' chances of winning the CIAA Western
Division crown.
Livingstone will host Johnson C. Smith University on the same
day. The game will be named “The Commemorative Classic” and will
celebrate the heritage between Johnson C. Smith (formerly known
as Biddle) and Livingstone. Prior to Saturday, the Athletic
Department will install its next class of inductees into the
Hall of Fame.
