JC Smith Avenge Previous Rival Loss with 73-62 Win Over Livingstone

 

Charlotte, NC – Johnson C. Smith University (13-8, 11-6 CIAA) defended Brayboy Gymnasium with a vengeful 73-62 victory over Livingstone College (6-17, 4-13 CIAA). Three Smith players scored in double figures: Jerome Givens, who reached his 1,000-point plateau, scored 11 points, while Jerry Hollis hit 13 and David Sanders 12.  Mario Satterthwaite scored the game high 18 points with Michael Duncan finishing with 13 for Livingstone. Livingstone defeated the Golden Bulls 79-76 in overtime on February 6 in Salisbury, North Carolina.

 

Johnson C. Smith converted 12 Blue Bear turnovers into 16 points to lead the game at intermission 37-30. Livingstone grabbed the first lead of the game, by as much as six points with 10:42 remaining, until the epidemic of turnovers infected the Blue Bears.

 

After the halftime break, the Golden Bulls maintained momentum and increased its largest lead to 15 points (51-36) with 15:22 on the clock. Turnovers continued to hamper the Blue Bears as they finished the game with a total of 22. The Golden Bulls scored a total of 24 points off of the turnovers. Smith shot 51% (26 of 51) from the field to Livingstone’s 38.9% (21 of 54).

 

Livingstone will host Bluefield State on Monday, February 19th at 7:30 pm. Johnson C. Smith will travel to Shaw for a 7:30 match-up on Saturday, February 17th.
