Falcons Play Complete Game In Rout Of Livingstone

RALEIGH – Saint Augustine’s College was clicking on both ends of the floor in a 74-47 thrashing of Livingstone College in a CIAA Western Division basketball match-up at Emery Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 20, 2007.

The Falcons shot a season-high 61.7 percent and held Livingstone to a season low in points in the easy victory, which improved their record to 17-8 overall, 13-6 CIAA and 4-3 in the Western Division. The Falcons are currently one of five CIAA teams who would receive a first-round bye if the CIAA Tournament started today.

The Blue Bears (6-18, 4-14 CIAA, 1-6 Western Division) led 2-0 but it would be their only lead of the game. The Falcons, behind 13 first-half points from junior center Jeff Sullivan (Carrolton, AL) and 10 first-half points from senior guard-forward Claude Neeley (Tallahassee, FL) opened a 42-22 halftime lead on 68 percent shooting and cruised the rest of the way. The lead stretched to 34 points (62-28) at one point in the second half on a lay-up by senior guard Antonio Fitzgerald (Danville, VA), who along with senior guard-forward Nicholas King (Philadelphia, PA) was selected to the 2007 All-CIAA basketball team earlier Tuesday for the second straight year.

Every Falcon played as Saint Augustine’s College extended its win streak to two games with the regular-season finale remaining against Western Division leader Fayetteville State University at Emery Gymnasium on Thursday, February 22, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. King led four players in double figures with 17 points as Fitzgerald and Sullivan both added 16 points and Neeley chipped in 13 for the Falcons. Sullivan and sophomore forward Robert Shuler (Newport News, VA) led the Falcons with eight rebounds apiece and junior forward Deon Dixon (Fayetteville, NC) pulled down seven rebounds.

Christopher Worley and Calvin Gunning both scored nine points for the Blue Bears, who shot 30.6 percent and were out-rebounded 42-27.
