Tuesday, December 4, 2007 Blue Bears Dominate Shaw Bears in William Trent Gym 83-70
Salisbury, NC – In its final home game in the year 2007, Livingstone (7-2, 2-1 CIAA) excited its students and home fans with an 83-70 win over the Shaw Bears (2-3, 0-1 CIAA). Michael Duncan rang out 23 points and six assists that set the pace for the Blue Bears. Travis Young recorded his second double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds while Tayloe Taylor also scored 12 points with seven assists. Big men Durrell Baker and Mario Satterthwaite netted 11 and 10 respectfully. The Blue Bears led by five (45-40) at the half. more | stats
Saturday, December 1, 2007 Blue Bears Improves to 6-2 with 73-55 defeat over WVa Wesleyan
Salisbury, NC – Livingstone (6-2 overall) is in stride with repeating one of its most successful starts. When Head Coach James Stinson took over the program in 2004, he guided the Blue Bears to an 8-2 overall record leading into the Christmas Break. After the CIAA Tournament, Livingstone posted one of its best records in history with a 17-12 overall and 8-8 conference record. Tonight, the Blue Bears defeated West Virginia Wesleyan (1-4 overall) 73-55 in William Trent Gymnasium. Michael Duncan (Cleveland, OH) led the game with 19 points. LC led at the 35-29.
Livingstone scored 21 points off turnovers (15 in the first half) compared to the Bobcats ten. The Blue Bears also dominated the paint with 46 points to 14. Although the rebounds were balanced between the two, LC shot 44.8% from the floor to 34.4%. Travis Young (Miami, FL) scored a double-double with 13 points and 14 rebounds. Tayloe Taylor (Memphis, TN) chipped in 12 points and seven assists.
Steve Nichols led the Bobcats with 18 points while Ryan Hoehner finished with a double-double of 14 points and ten rebounds. Jared Chafin also had double figure points on 11.
Tuesday, November 27, 2007 Michael Duncan Lifts Livingstone over Bowie State 72-69 in Overtime
Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College (5-1 overall, 1-0 CIAA) defeated Bowie State University 72-69 in overtime during its conference opener. Michael Duncan (Cleveland, OH) led the game, for the Blue Bears, with 17 points and scored the final field goal of the game with 1:14 remaining in the extra period. Duncan also hit a three-pointer with three seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score 62-62. Durrell Baker scored a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. Mario Satterthwaite netted 12 points while point guard Tayloe Taylor chipped in ten points and seven assists. Falling behind in the first quarter by as much as ten points, Livingstone closed the gap for a 29-30 halftime deficit. more | stats
Saturday, November 24, 2007 Livingstone defeats Knights at Holiday Classic
PEMBROKE, N.C.—Senior forward Benny Zacharias (Raeford, N.C.) had career-highs of seven points and seven rebounds to lead St. Andrews Presbyterian College but Livingstone College won its second straight game in the 2007 UNCP Holiday Classic (hosted by UNC Pembroke) with a 77-64 non-conference men’s basketball victory on Saturday afternoon in the English E. Jones Center.
Livingstone improved to 4-1 on the season with a balanced scoring attack that included seven Blue Bears with seven or more points. Sophomore Calvin Gunning (Camden, N.J.) paced the designated visitors with 15 points in the neutral site showdown. more | stats
Friday, November 23, 2007 Livingstone Prevails 64-61 Over UNC Pembroke
Pembroke, NC -Livingstone College (3-1 overall) improved its style play compared to its recent loss to Mars Hill to defeat host UNC Pembroke 64-61 in its Holiday Classic. Tayloe Taylor and Calvin Gunning chipped in 13 points and three steals each to lead the team in victory. Although the shooting percentage dropped to 44.9%, the Blue Bears forced the Braves (1-1 overall) into 19 turnovers and converted them into 23 points. Jonathan Hart of UNCP led the game with 27 points and ten rebounds. LC was up at the half 28-25. more | stats
Saturday, November 17, 2007 Blue Bears Continues to Improve with 73-64 Win over Belmont Abbey
Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College, now 2-0 overall, defeated visiting Belmont Abbey College 73-64 in an afternoon match-up. Four players scored in double-figures while the Blue Bears shot 49.1% from the floor and 84.6% from the free throw line. Mario Satterthwaite (Greenville, NC) led all with 19 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Calvin Gunning (Camden, NJ) followed with 18 points of his own. The Crusaders (0-2 overall) led at the half 33-31.
Down at the half, the Blue Bears (2-0) took complete control of the lead in the second half with 12:09 remaining; when leading scorer Satterthwaite scored a lay-up for the 44-42 score. Michael Duncan (Cleveland, OH) hit 13 points while Tayloe Taylor netted ten points and dished eight assists. more | stats
Thursday, November 15, 2007 Livingstone Devastate Season Opener with 104-81 Victory Over Morris College
Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College (1-0 overall) opened the 2007-08 season with a 104-81 thrashing over Morris College. Six Blue Bears scored in double figures tonight while the team shot 51.5 percent from the floor. Senior point guard Michael Duncan (Cleveland, OH) led the game with 20 points while Senior Mario Satterthwaite (Greenville, NC) and Tayloe Taylor (Junior, Memphis, TN) both finished with a double-double. Satterthwaite totaled 17 points and 11 rebounds. Taylor had ten points and 11 assists. Livingstone led at the half 49-30. more | stats
