Blue Bears Finish 6th at CIAA Outdoor Championships

 

Petersburg, VA - Livingstone did not fare as well as it had hoped at the 2007 CIAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Event was hosted on the campus of Virginia State University. The Blue Bears scored a total of 27 points from seven events. Senior thrower Keith Harris led the team by scoring ten points from three events.

Harris finished fourth in the javelin throw with a mark of 43.14 meters. He heaved a throw of 13.85 meters in the shot put for a fifth place finish and a throw of 35.64 meters in the discus throw for an eight place award. By finishing in the top eight, Keith Harris earned All-CIAA honors.

Lavernon Spivey finished third in the 800 meter to score six points for the Blue Bears. He ran in a time of 1:53.06. The provisional mark for the NCAA Outdoor Nationals in 1:53.00. He qualified for the finials in eight position with a preliminary time of 2:01.38.

3rd Place 4x400m Relay Team

The Blue Bears 4x400 meter relay team qualified for championship finals by finishing fourth in the preliminaries in 3:20.11. The relay squad improved to third in the finials with a 3:15.86 mark.

 

Robert Blackwell, a member of the 4x400 meter relay team, was also a member of the sixth place 4x100 meter relay team. The foursome finished in 42.53 seconds. In the preliminary event, the squad placed sixth in 42.85 seconds. Blackwell finished seventh in 400-meter hurdles in 58.64 seconds. In the qualifying event, he ran 56.75 seconds in the fifth position. Complete Results

Livingstone Finished Second at Home Classic

 

Salisbury, NC - The Blue Bears scored 111 points to finish second at  its home meet in Alumni Memorial Stadium. CIAA opponent Shaw University swept the meet by scoring  146.50 points for the men and 168 points for the women. The Lady Golden Bulls finished second with 102 points while the men finished third with 83.50 points.

 

The meet also highlighted a few high school teams. West Charlotte women and men won their divisions with 180 and 133 points respectively. Berkeley finished second with 46 points while Waddell followed with 37 points. Wakefield and Hopewell finished with 20 and 10 points respectively. Complete Results
