November 8, 2007 Livingstone Survives Day 1 of CIAA Volleyball Tournament and Sets a New Record
Charlotte, NC – If history serves correct, Livingstone College accomplished a feat that has never been done since it started playing volleyball in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association. After defeating Virginia State 3-2 in Brayboy Gymnasium, the Lady Blue Bears relocated to Grady Coles Center for its second game. Fayetteville State (21-10 overall) defeated Livingstone 3-0 (10-30, 18-30, 19-30). In a double elimination situation, the Lady Blue Bears rebounded to crush Saint Paul’s College 3-0 (30-20, 30-15, 30-12). Historical records have Livingstone playing in the annual tournament in 1997, but it does not have a record of the Lady Blue Bears playing past the first round. LC will play Bowie State University (14-13 overall) in the first game of the Semi-Finals round at 5:00 pm in the Grady Cole Center.
Davia Moss did not play in the game versus Fayetteville State but Tia Charlow (Nassau, Bahamas), Shannon Allen (Henderson, NC) and Lydia Blakey (Winston, GA) led the effort with six kills each.
Chekimbrel Jefferson of Fayetteville State led all with 16 kills on 28 attacks.
Livingstone swept the floor with the Lady Tigers as Shannon Allen led all with 18 kills on 34 total attacks and Davia Moss (Nassau, Bahamas) with 17 kills on 34 attacks.
