Crystal Johnson’s excels Lady
Bulldogs past Livingstone 70-68
Salisbury, NC – Bowie State
dominated the first match-up between the Lady Bulldogs and
Livingstone, but face a difficult task tonight. With one
second remaining in the game, Crystal Johnson nailed a
three-pointer that helped Bowie State to (10-5, 6-3 CIAA) a
70-68 victory. The lead changed hands seven times during the
game but the Lady Bulldogs dominated the post outscoring
Livingstone 22-20 in the paint and making 23 points off of
second chance opportunities. Bowie State led Livingstone
(6-9, 3-5 CIAA) 34-32 at the half.
Bowie State led the first half by as
much as 12 points with 4:40 remaining in the half. Tracy
Cole led the half with 12 points making four of five
three-pointers. The Lady Blue Bears closed the deficit by
way of senior Lamika Davis who hit eight of her ten points
during the 12-4 run to end the half. The Lady Bulldogs went
into intermission with a 34-32 lead.
Livingstone sparked life in the second
half with a 13-2 run that lasted four minutes after the
11:16 mark. The run put the Lady Blue Bears ahead 56-49 with
7:16 remaining in the game.
Bowie State responded with 2:46 on the
clock with a 10-2 run that lasted 1:35 and closed the tied
the game at 64-64 with 1:11 remaining. Markeya Watson led
the charge with seven of the ten points. Tracey Cole hit her
sixth three-pointer that put the Lady Bulldogs ahead by one
(67-66) with 31.7 second left in the game.
Chelsea Johnson hit two free throws to
give Livingstone a one point lead with 11 seconds reminding.
Crystal Johnson drilled a three pointer from the left wing
with .4 of a second left to give Bowie a two point victory.
The Lady Bulldogs were led by Allyson
Swailes with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Tracey Cole and
Markeya Watson added 20 and 16 points respectively. Bowie
State shot 53 percent from behind the arc making eight of
15. Cole made six of her nine attempts.
Livingstone had four players in double
figures; Lamika Davis led the effort with 15 points and 7
assists. Clintoria Bryant and Kimone Johns chipped in with
14 points each and Lina Brown with 10.
