Lady Blue Bears Overcome

College (1-1) wins its first road game 82-79
at Bluefield State Tuesday evening. Junior
Lina Brown (Norfolk, VA) and freshmen Jonta'
Moss (Augusta, GA) led the game with 21
points each. Brown also had three blocks
while Moss added five assists. Bluefield
controlled the first half, with slight
halftime lead of 38-37. The Lady Blues were
led by Jennetta Smith (Chicago, IL), who had
a double-double with 16 points and 12
rebounds, and Hyshea Smith (Pittsburgh, PA)
who also had 16 points.
After a week layoff following their
season-opener, the Lady Blue Bears began the
game with sluggish play. Midway through the
half, the Lady Blues held a 10 point lead,
26-16 with 8:20 left to play. Bluefield
State controlled the first half with a 20-16
point comparison in the paint. The Lady
Blues also managed eight points off of fast
breaks to Livingstone's four.
Three-point shooting helped the Lady Blue
Bears to the victory. LC shot 9 of 23
(39.1%) over Bluefield?s 37.5% (3 of 8).
Moss made four of ten from behind the arc.
Assisting in the winning effort was junior
Clintoria Bryant (Goldsboro, NC) with 14
points and 8 assists. She also nailed 4
three-pointers to contribute to her double
figures. Four out of the five starters for
the Lady Blues landed in double figure,
including Laila Shareef (Denver, Co) with 15
points, and Rachel Ellis (Glen Rogers, WV)
with 14. Off the bench, Charise Watts (Huntingtown,
MD) landed in double figures with 10 points.
The Lady Blue Bears will play at Catawba
College this weekend in the Comfort Suites
Thanksgiving Classic. Livingstone will play
host Catawba at 8:00 pm on Friday and Carson
Newman on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
