Lady Blue Bears Slip Away in Overtime against Elizabeth City State 80-83

Salisbury, NC- The Livingstone Lady Blue Bears (1-5, 0-2 CIAA) relinquished an 80-83 overtime win to Elizabeth City State (2-3, 2-0 CIAA) in their CIAA home opener.  With a slim halftime lead of 39-35, The Lady Vikings watched their advantage disappear with a 10-3 LC run at the end of regulation to tie the game at 72.  Before fouling out of the game with 37 seconds left in overtime, ECSU’s Celeste Trahan’s (Stockton, CA) 33-point performance proved enough to secure the victory. Junior Lina “Love” Brown scored her first double-double of the season with 20 points and 13 rebounds. Freshman Jonta’ Moss led the Lady Blue Bears in scoring with 22 points.

 

After intermission at the 7:49 mark, the Lady Blue Bears comeback run covered 14-7 scoring gap that lasted over six minutes.  The Lady Blue Bears shot 41.9% (31 of 74) in field goals while the Lady Vikings shot 33 of 70 (47.1%).  Livingstone was 8 of 28 (28.6%) behind the arc. The Lady Vikings shot 50% (4 of 8). 

 

Other top scorers for Livingstone were Clintoria Bryant with 15 points and Kimone Johns with 12. The Lady Vikings top scorers behind Trahan were freshmen Joyce Freeman (Vanceboro, NC) with 13 points and senior Tiffany Smith (Cheverly, MD) with 10.

 

The Lady Blue Bears will travel to Richmond, VA to face Virginia Union University on December 9, 2006 for a 5:30 pm double-header.
