Tuesday, December 04, 2007 Scoring Drought downs Lady Blue Bears 46-70 to Shaw
Salisbury, NC – Two Livingstone scoring droughts in the second half expands a 24 point victory (70-46) for Shaw University (6-1, 2-1 CIAA) in William Trent Gymnasium. NeKeisha Anthony led the Lady Bears with 19 points while Jessica Davis and Jamie Goshen added 16 and 11 respectfully. Saturday, December 1, 2007 Catawba evades host Lady Blue Bears 57-49 in William Trent Gym
Salisbury, NC – Livingstone College women’s basketball team does not play according to its record of 1-6. Despite its 57-49 loss today to cross-town opponent Catawba College (4-1 overall); the game was not decided until 50 seconds remaining in the game when the Lady Blue Bears trailed by three point (49-52). Asheka Hudson (Milwaukee, WI) led the game with 16 points. At the half, LC was behind 35-25.
Earlier this week, the Lady Blue Bears fell short to Elizabeth City State 60-64 and Bowie State 53-69. With 39 seconds and one second remaining, LC was behind by two against the Lady Vikings and down at the half against Bowie State by two 26-28.
The Lady Blue Bears opened the game with a quick 6-0 run which advanced to a ten point (12-2) lead at the 15:19 mark. The Lady Indians ate away at the lead until they took control with 7:31 remaining in the half. Catawba created a cushion of 12 points with 39 seconds left in the first.
Livingstone deflated the lead to four points (44-48) at 5:13 in the game and cut that to three (49-53) with :50 on the clock. Kalyela Joseph hit the jumper just inside the three-point arc. The assisted pass was delivered by Hudson. Catawba inched to the victory by hitting five of six free throws in the remaining seconds. The Lady Indians scored three field goals in the second half; one lay-up, one tip-in, and one three-pointer. Catawba made 15 of 21 free throws.
Wednesday, November 20, 2007 Livingstone holds off Bluefield State 43-42
Salisbury, NC - The Lady Blue Bears won its home opener versus the Lady Blues of Bluefield State 43-42. While both teams shot poorly from the floor, Livingstone (1-2 overall) utilized its defense for the victory. Chelsea Johnson forced a Lady Blues turnover and foul with seven seconds remaining in the game. After a pair of missed free throws, Bluefield State missed a last second attempt at a three-pointer. Asheka Hudson (Junior, Milwaukee, WI/Pius XI HS) and Turquoise Lane (Senior, Winston-Salem, NC/Carver HS) led all with ten points. Lane led the defensive effort with seven steals. Livingstone led by one at the half, 21-20.
Bluefield State (0-2 overall) shot 32.5% in field goals and made 5 of 16 attempts in the first half. Livingstone shot 35.4% for the game and made 8 of 22 shots in the second half. The Lady Blue Bears last field goal was with 2:50 remaining in the game. LC’s largest lead was by seven points in the first half with 15:44 remaining. Both teams scored 22 points in the second half. October 11, 2007 CIAA Announces All-Conference Preseason Team and Predicted Order of Finish Charlotte, NC… The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association announced its Pre-Season All-CIAA Teams and Predicted Order of Finish at the CIAA Basketball Press Conference and Luncheon, this afternoon.
Today’s event tipped-off the 2007-08 season with in-depth predictions and outlooks presented by CIAA men’s and women’s basketball head coaches. Participants were also treated to an announcement by 2XSalt, Inc., an organization that will be hosting the “Battle of the Best”; a scrimmage game between renowned Oak Hill Academy and Montrose Christian Academy. This game will be included in the host of Super Saturday events. more
