2007 CIAA COMMISSIONER’S ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM ANNOUNCED:

Livingstone’s Shantrice Chapel Named to the Second Team

HAMPTON, VA — Senior Livingstone Tennis player Shantrice Chapel of Parkton, NC was named to the 2007 CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Second Team. Chapel, majors in Chemistry and has a 3.7 GPA, finished third this year in #3 singles at the CIAA Championships.

 

Twenty student-athletes from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association have been named to the 10th annual CIAA Commissioner’s All-Academic Team.

 

“This is an extraordinary group of student-athletes that have pushed their strengths and abilities to new limits,” said CIAA Commissioner Leon G. Kerry. “They represent the CIAA and all that it stands for. This 10th All-Academic Team is dedicated to future student-athletes who will follow in their footsteps to one day become the leaders of tomorrow.” more

Lady Blue Bears Tennis Finish Third at CIAA Championships

Petersburg, VA - Livingstone College Women's Tennis Team recorded its name in the history books with a third place finish at the 2007 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tennis Championships. Livingstone recorded a second place finish in #4 Singles when Ashley Walls fell in the championship set to Shayla Watson of Fayetteville State University (6-1, 6-1). The Lady Blue Bears recorded a third place finish in #3 Singles when Shantrice Chapel defeated LeJacquelyn Artis of FSU. The #2 and #3 Doubles finished fourth.

 

The Lady Blue Bears finished the regular season with a 12-7 overall and 10-5 CIAA record. The ladies finished third in the Western Division with a 4-4 record behind Fayetteville State University and North Carolina Central University. Ashley Walls is the first female player in Livingstone history to be named to the All-CIAA Team at #4 Singles. She finished the season with a 14-5 Singles record and a 11-6 #2 Doubles record.

Livingstone Tennis Ranked 3rd after Championship Day 3
 
Petersburg, VA - The Lady Blue Bears of Livingstone College is currently ranked third at the CIAA Tennis Championships at Virginia State University.  #2 Ashley Walls will play for the #4 Singles Championships. She will face #1 player Shayla Watson of Fayetteville State on Saturday Morning.
 
Shantrice Chapel finished 3rd in Number 3 Singles when she defeated LeJacquelyn Artis of Fayetteville State.
 
All CIAA Ashley Walls doubled with Tamisha Hurley and finished fourth in Number 2 Doubles while teammates Dominique Stewart and Kari Johnson also finished fourth.

Livingstone Defeats Elizabeth City State 6-3

 

SALISBURY, NC -- The Livingstone Women's Tennis Team defeated CIAA opponent Elizabeth City State 6-3 at Salisbury High School's Tennis Courts on Sunday, March 25th. The Lady Blue Bears won four of six singles matches and two of three doubles. Livingstone improves to 4-2, 4-1 CIAA and will host non-conference opponent Lenoir-Rhyne College on Tuesday, March 27. The match will be played at Salisbury City Park. stats

Livingstone knocks off St. Augustine's 9-0 and 8-0

 

Raleigh, NC -- The Lady Blue Bears swept the Lady Falcons of Saint Augustine's College 9-0 and 8-0 in Raleigh, NC on Friday, March 23rd. In the first match-up, LC won one single and one double by default. In the second match, the Livingstone won one single by default.  Match 1 | Match 2

Lady Blue Bears falls to Virginia State 8-1

 

Petersburg, VA - The Lady Trojans of Virginia State defeated Livingstone 8-1 in CIAA Tennis. Ashley Walls recorded the only defeat for the Lady Blue Bears with a 3-6, 6-3, and 10-5 victory over Mercedes Bell. stats

Livingstone Falls in Season Opener

 

SALISBURY, NC -- Catawba swept its way to a 9-0 win over visiting Livingstone in women’s tennis action on Friday afternoon at Johnson Tennis Center.  The Lady Indians won all three doubles and dropped only three total games in six singles matches.  Catawba improves to 6-6. more

Shantrice went undefeated in match-play for the week with wins against St. Paul's College, Johnson C. Smith and Virginia State.

Virginia Union defeat Lady Blue Bears 6-1

Salisbury, NC -  Livingstone (1-2, 1-2 CIAA) hosted the Lady Panthers of Virginia Union on the courts of Salisbury High School. VUU won the match 6-1 by winning both doubles and taking four of the five singles. Shantrice Chapel led the way for the Lady Blue Bears by winning her singles match against Stejskalova 7-5 and 6-4.  stats

Livingstone falls 9-0 to Shaw

 

Salisbury, NC - The Lady Blue Bears just were not enough for the Lady Bears of Shaw University. Although the score was 9-0 it did not tell the entire story the "Ladies played a hard fought game against Shaw but they just had the better team" said Coach Enoch. Despite the fact that Shaw had a larger and a more talented team it was a great game. The Lady Blue Bears are looking ahead to their next contest against Virginia Union University to be held on Friday, March 17, 2006 at 12:00 pm at Salisbury High. stats

Lady Blue Bears begin 2006 Tennis Season on a Winning Note

 

Salisbury, NC -  The Lady Blue Bears defeated the Lady Bulldogs of Bowie State University 4-3 on Saturday. Despite a 2hr and 30min rain delay the Lady Blue Bears were ready to start their season off on a winning note as they won both sets of doubles matches 8-6 and 2 out of the 5 singles matches. Livingstone will be back in action on Wednesday, March 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon as they host the Lady Bears of Shaw University. This game will be held at Salisbury High School. stats
